A delegation from the Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO), led by its President, Mr. M. Vinod, met with Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Admiral D.K. Joshi (Retd.) to discuss pressing issues affecting the tourism industry in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Accompanied by AATO members Mr. K. Hamza, Mr. Vivek, Mr. Sajid, and Mr. Saikat Biswas, the delegation underscored the urgent need for a comprehensive tourism policy. They proposed the formation of a dedicated tourism committee comprising industry stakeholders and government officials to improve coordination and decision-making.
One of the major concerns raised was the withdrawal of AirAsia’s Kuala Lumpur flights in April 2025 and SpiceJet’s exit from key routes, which has led to a surge in airfare prices and inconvenience for travellers. AATO requested the administration’s intervention to help revive these air routes and ensure better connectivity.
The delegation also advocated for the opening of new islands for tourism to ease overcrowding at existing destinations and enhance the overall visitor experience. Additionally, they sought an extension of Inland Vessel (IV) limits to improve maritime connectivity and streamline operations for tourism-related boat services.
Admiral Joshi acknowledged AATO’s concerns and assured the delegation that the administration remains committed to fostering the sustainable growth of tourism in the islands.
AATO expressed its gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor for his time and continued support in strengthening the tourism sector in Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
