Members of the Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO) on Sunday participated in the inaugural voyage of MV Wave Rider, a newly launched 50-seater luxury vessel, on its maiden journey to the ecologically rich Jolly Buoy Island, part of the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park.

Owned and operated by local entrepreneur Mr. Mohd. Sajid, MV Wave Rider aims to redefine marine tourism in the Andaman Islands. The state-of-the-art vessel boasts luxury seating, a fully air-conditioned onboard café, and an array of amenities designed to provide passengers with a premium travel experience while showcasing one of India’s most treasured eco-tourism destinations.

Jolly Buoy Island, renowned for its crystal-clear waters, thriving coral reefs, and diverse marine life, is a plastic-free and conservation-focused site. Open to visitors only for part of the year to protect its fragile ecosystem, the island offers glass-bottom boat rides and draws eco-conscious travellers from across the globe.

Guests aboard the inaugural trip enjoyed a curated experience that included an onboard lunch, refreshments on the beach—such as tender coconut and mocktail drinks—and shaded relaxation areas with beach umbrellas and lounge chairs thoughtfully arranged for their comfort.

Speaking at the event, AATO President Mr. M. Vinod extended his gratitude to Mr. Sajid for introducing a premium vessel that enhances the tourism landscape of the islands. He praised the initiative as a commendable example of local entrepreneurship elevating visitor experiences in a sustainable manner.

Mr. Sajid, in his remarks, highlighted the vessel’s safety features, modern design, and environmentally responsible all-inclusive tour packages. He emphasized his commitment to offering tourists a luxurious yet conscious way to explore the Andaman Islands.

AATO hailed the launch of MV Wave Rider as a significant step in upgrading marine tourism services in the region and reiterated its support for ventures that blend sustainability with quality and comfort for visitors.
