AATO Participates in ZSI’s Swachhata Pakhwada Campaign Promoting “Zero Waste Tourism – A Sustainable Goal”

A delegation from the Andaman and Nicobar Association of Tour Operators (AATO), led by President Mr. M. Vinod, actively participated in a Swachhata Pakhwada awareness programme held at the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) on 14th June 2025.

The event focused on the theme “Zero Waste Tourism – A Sustainable Goal”, featuring interactive sessions, awareness talks, and distribution of educational materials aimed at promoting hygiene and sustainability in tourism. Participants were encouraged to adopt practices that help maintain clean tourist destinations while minimizing environmental impact.

Presiding over the programme as Chief Guest, Mr. M. Vinod emphasized the crucial role of tour operators and visitors in supporting sustainable tourism. Mr. Avinash Kumar Singh, Superintendent Engineer of Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council, graced the occasion as Guest of Honour, while Mr. K. Hamza, General Secretary of AATO, also attended the programme.

Speakers highlighted the importance of the Swachh Bharat Mission and urged all stakeholders to reduce plastic usage significantly with the goal of completely eliminating it in the near future.

The programme was attended by AATO members, research scholars, and staff members of ZSI, marking a collective commitment towards a cleaner and greener environment.
