The Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO) has urged the Andaman & Nicobar Administration to station trained paramedics at North Bay and Elephant Beach, two of South Andaman’s busiest tourist spots, to ensure timely medical assistance for visitors.
In a formal request addressed to the Secretary (Health), AATO emphasized the pressing need for medical personnel at these remote sites, which attract hundreds of tourists daily, many participating in water sports and other adventure activities. The association cited challenges such as limited access to nearby healthcare facilities and the potential for health emergencies like injuries and dehydration.
“A dedicated paramedic at each of these sites would go a long way in ensuring tourist safety and instilling confidence among travellers and service providers,” said M. Vinod, President of AATO. “It reflects our collective commitment to promoting the Andaman Islands as a responsible and safe destination.”
AATO has proposed a daily rotational deployment of one paramedic each at North Bay and Elephant Beach, or any arrangement the administration finds suitable. The association also expressed its appreciation for the administration’s continued support in enhancing tourism safety and infrastructure, and reaffirmed its commitment to working collaboratively for the growth of the sector.
