Aberdeen Police Arrests Drug Peddler Attempting to Smuggle 855 Grams Ganja into Sri Vijaya Puram

In a continued crackdown on drug trafficking, the South Andaman District Police arrested a man in possession of 855 grams of ganja. The arrest was made by the Aberdeen Police on September 23, 2024, as part of their ongoing efforts to create a drug-free society.

Based on intelligence received about a drug peddler arriving from Kolkata, a team from Aberdeen Police Station, led by Inspector Vishal Ram, swiftly organized a raid at the Veer Savarkar International (VSI) Airport. The police team included Sub-Inspector Tejeshwar Rao, Head Constable M. Vinod Kumar, and Police Constables Jay Raj, Jagdish Babu, S. S. Yadav, Mohd. Rafique, and Naw Elieen. Acting on the tip-off, they apprehended the suspect near the airport’s arrival gate.

The arrested individual, identified as a 22-year-old resident of Garacharma, was found in possession of 855 grams of ganja. He has been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and a case has been registered at the Aberdeen Police Station.

The operation was supervised by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Anushtha Kalia, IPS, under the overall direction of Niharika Bhatt, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District.

Authorities have urged the public to report any information related to illegal activities or drug trafficking to the police. Citizens can share information by calling 112 or contacting local police stations directly. The police assured that the identity of informants will be kept confidential as part of their mission to foster a healthy and drug-free society.
