Demonstrating swift action and a firm commitment to zero tolerance against crime, the Aberdeen Police have successfully solved a blind hit-and-run case within 18 hours of the incident.
The incident occurred on May 22, 2025, at around 6:30 PM near Corbyn’s Cove Road. The victim approached Police Station Aberdeen to report that he had been struck by an unidentified vehicle, whose rider fled the scene immediately after the collision.
Acting on the complaint, a case was registered, and a special investigation team was constituted under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Abhishek Haldar, assisted by Police Constable K. Jagdish Babu. The team launched a meticulous investigation, scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas and gathering inputs from local sources.
During the probe, investigators received a tip-off that a man named Saktipada Ghorai, a chef employed at a nearby resort, had recently sustained injuries consistent with a vehicular accident. Acting swiftly, the team traced and detained Ghorai for questioning.
Upon sustained interrogation, Ghorai confessed to being involved in the hit-and-run and admitted to fleeing the scene in a bid to avoid arrest.
The case was cracked under the guidance of Inspector Vishal Ram, SHO, PS Aberdeen, with oversight from Mr. Ajay Kumar Rai, DANIPS, SDPO South Andaman, and under the overall supervision of the Superintendent of Police, South Andaman.
