Aberdeen Police Swiftly Solves Blind Burglary Case, Recovers Gold Ornaments Worth Rs. 15 Lakhs

In a commendable display of professionalism, the South Andaman District Police cracked a blind burglary case within 24 hours, leading to the apprehension of the accused and the recovery of stolen gold ornaments valued at approximately Rs. 15 lakhs.

The incident came to light on January 29, 2024, when a complaint was filed at PS Aberdeen reporting the burglary of gold ornaments and cash totalling Rs. 15 lakhs and Rs. 48,000, respectively. The crime occurred at the residence of the complainant located at School Line, Port Blair. The complainant, who had been away due to family reasons, was informed by the landlord on January 29 that the door lock had been broken. Upon his return, he discovered the theft from an almirah.

Following the complaint, an FIR was registered at Police Station Aberdeen under sections 457/380 IPC against an unknown accused. Sub-Inspector Abhishek Haldar was assigned the investigation.

A dedicated team from Aberdeen Police, led by SI Jeevan and including SI Abhishek Haldar (IO), HC/Vinod Kumar, PCs Surender Singh Yadav, K. Jairaj, Vijay Singh, Naw Eileen of PS Aberdeen, and PC S. Neel Kanteshwar Rao of the Cyber Cell, worked diligently under the guidance of Insp. Girish Kumar, SHO PS Aberdeen. The team employed meticulous analysis of approximately 15 kilometres of CCTV footage to identify the accused and subsequently apprehend the culprits.

The accused, aware of CCTV cameras in the area, took precautions to cover his face before reaching within the camera range. The investigation revealed that the perpetrator used various routes through dark and isolated areas to reach the complainant’s house and employed different routes after committing the crime to return home. The breakthrough in the case was attributed to the team’s meticulous investigative work, leveraging CCTV analysis, intelligence gathering, and exemplary teamwork.

Under the close supervision of Mr. Vikas, IPS, Sub Divisional Police Officer, South Andaman, and the overall guidance of Mr. Kalaivanan R, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District, the operation resulted in the recovery of stolen gold ornaments worth around Rs. 15 Lakhs and cash amounting to Rs. 30,360.
