In a major step towards strengthening digital healthcare services in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, it has been announced that all Outpatient Department (OPD) registrations at G.B. Pant Hospital, Sri Vijaya Puram, will now be carried out exclusively through the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA)/Health ID.

The move is part of the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), a flagship initiative of the Government of India launched in 2021 to establish a unified and integrated digital health ecosystem across the country. The mission aims to bridge existing gaps among healthcare stakeholders by leveraging digital technologies and enabling standardized and secure exchange of health data.

Under ABDM, citizens are provided with a unique digital health identity known as ABHA or Health ID. The digital ID allows individuals to securely access their personal health records and share them seamlessly across healthcare facilities, strictly based on patient consent.

According to officials, the exclusive use of ABHA for OPD registration at G.B. Pant Hospital is intended to ensure faster service delivery, accurate patient identification, and secure digital sharing of medical records.

Patients visiting the hospital have been advised to carry their ABHA/Health ID details, or the mobile number linked with their ABHA, or the Aadhaar-linked mobile number to facilitate OPD registration.

To further enhance patient convenience, the “Scan & Share” feature has been introduced at G.B. Pant Hospital, R.P. Hospital in Mayabunder, and B.J.R. Hospital in Car Nicobar. Using this facility, patients can scan a QR code to generate an OPD token, reducing waiting time and enabling quicker access to medical services.

Dedicated support staff have been deployed at the OPD registration counters of the above-mentioned hospitals to assist patients with ABHA creation and use of the Scan & Share facility.

Additionally, a separate ABHA/Health ID creation desk has been set up at the OPD of G.B. Pant Hospital. The desk will function from Monday to Friday between 3 pm and 4.30 pm, with designated staff to facilitate on-the-spot ABHA generation. Patients may also create their ABHA online through the official website of ABDM or by visiting their nearest Common Services Centre (CSC).

Authorities have sought the cooperation of patients and attendants to ensure the smooth and successful implementation of the digital health initiative across the Islands.
