The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, paid floral tributes at the Humfrygunj Martyrs’ Memorial to honour the freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the nation.

The homage was paid in remembrance of the 44 freedom fighters of the Indian Independence League who were brutally martyred by Japanese troops on this day in 1944 at Humfrygunj. The programme formed part of an official administrative function, during which the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, also offered floral tributes at the memorial. Family members of the martyrs were present on the solemn occasion, lending emotional significance to the ceremony.

Remembering the supreme sacrifice of the martyrs, Mr. Ayush Raj, Media Convener, ABVP ANI, along with Mr. Swagatham Das, Pramukh, Students for Seva, ABVP ANI, paid tributes and observed a moment of silence in honour of their courage and patriotism.

The occasion served as a reminder of the invaluable contributions made by the martyrs to India’s freedom struggle and inspired the youth to uphold the ideals of nationalism, service and sacrifice.

Students from Humfrygunj School and various colleges across the islands actively participated in the programme, reflecting collective respect and growing awareness among the younger generation about the sacrifices made during the freedom movement.

Reaffirming its commitment, ABVP Andaman & Nicobar Islands stated that it would continue to work towards preserving the legacy of the freedom fighters and contributing to nation-building through active student involvement and social service initiatives.
