ACCI’s Youth Wing Hosts ‘Tourism Conclave’ in Port Blair to Promote Sustainable Tourism Practices

The Youth Wing of Andaman Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) took centre stage in the City of Port Blair as it orchestrated a groundbreaking “Tourism Conclave” at the TSG Emerald View Hotel on 3rd October 2023.

The primary objective of this pioneering conclave was to delve into and educate attendees on various sustainable practices within the tourism sector. Furthermore, it served as a pivotal platform for forging alliances and partnerships aimed at promoting responsible hospitality and tourism throughout the picturesque A&N Islands.

The event commenced with a warm welcome address delivered by Mr. Farhan Jadwet, President of ACCI Youth Wing. The official inauguration was graced by the esteemed presence of Chief Guest Ms. Nandini Maharaj, IAS, Special Secretary, IP&T, A&N Administration, who marked the occasion with a ceremonial lamp lighting.

Following the inaugural ceremony, an award ceremony unfolded to recognise and commend prominent stakeholders who have made significant contributions to sustainable tourism.

Vibrant discussions and meaningful exchanges of ideas transpired, laying the foundation for long-term advancements in the A&N Islands’ tourism industry.

In her address, Ms. Nandini Maharaj highlighted the unique attributes of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands as an ideal destination for sustainable and eco-tourism. She also shed light on the comprehensive initiatives undertaken by the A&N Administration to enhance the tourism sector in these scenic islands.

The conclave featured key panel discussions addressing various critical topics. Distinguished experts shared their insights, emphasising sustainability and responsible business practices for a greener future.

Panel Session I, titled “Sustainable Tourism and Green Investment,” was hosted by Mr. Ebrahim Jadwet, Director of ANEMCO. The panel comprised illustrious members, including Mr. Ramakrishna, Assistant Director, India Tourism, Mr. Anil Kumar, GM, CGH Earth, Mr. Mohd. Sajid, MD, Andaman Escapades, Mr. Arun Singh, President, Avians Club, and Mr. Mukeshwar Lal, a renowned Film Maker and Historian. This session revolved around the promotion of sustainable investment decisions, green tourism policies, and waste management strategies.

Panel Session II, themed “Tourism in Andamans: Issues and Future,” was led by Mr. Dakshin Bhasker, Director of TSG Hotels and Resorts. The panel featured prominent members, including Mr. M. Vinod, Member of LG Advisory Committee, Mr. Mohd. Parvez, GM, ANIIDCO, Mr. Girish Arora, Former President of ACCI, Mr. C.S Ashok, Director of Makruz, and Mr. V.V Singh, Pilot at Pawan Hans. These experts explored strategies to enhance tourism in A&N Islands, including collaborations with international countries like Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, while addressing issues such as connectivity problems, high airfares, and the scarcity of helicopters, cruise ships, and sea planes in the Inter-Island sector.

The program reached its conclusion with a vote of thanks offered by Mr. Ayush Kandoi, Member of ACCI Youth Wing.
