The North & Middle Andaman Police have reaffirmed their strong commitment to justice with a major conviction in a POCSO case from Diglipur. On 9 December 2025, the Hon’ble Special Judge (POCSO), Sh. Subhajit Basu, pronounced judgment in Crime No. 01/2024 of PS Diglipur, sentencing the accused to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹50,000.
The conviction follows a thorough and meticulous investigation led by Sub-Inspector Deepti Minj, the Investigating Officer, and Inspector K. Binoj, the then SHO of PS Diglipur. Police officials said their diligence, professionalism and unwavering efforts were instrumental in securing justice for the minor survivor and ensuring the accused was held accountable.
The case pertains to the sexual assault of a minor girl who was abused by the accused while she was returning home from her friend’s house. Based on the victim’s complaint received on 3 January 2025, PS Diglipur registered a case under Sections 5(j)(ii)/6 of the POCSO Act, 2012 read with Section 376 of the IPC, leading to swift action and a comprehensive investigation.
Police said the judgment delivers a strong and unequivocal message that crimes against children will attract the strictest legal consequences. The Andaman & Nicobar Police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy toward such offences and their continued commitment to safeguarding vulnerable sections of society.
The Police have also urged the public to report any information related to crime or illegal activities to the nearest Police Station or by calling 100, 112 or 03192-273344. Informers’ identities will be kept confidential and they will be suitably rewarded, officials added.
