In a significant move aimed at strengthening local law enforcement and improving public access to police services, a Police Booth was formally inaugurated at Adazig under the jurisdiction of Police Station Baratang on Thursday.

The inauguration ceremony was led by Ms. Shweta K. Sugathan, IPS, in the presence of Mr. Chandan G.S., SDPO Rangat, and SI Surjit Bhattacharjee, SHO, PS Baratang, along with other police officers and community members.

The establishment of the Adazig Police Booth fulfils a long-pending demand of residents, who previously had to travel considerable distances—often during night hours—to reach PS Baratang for lodging complaints or seeking assistance. The lack of a local police presence had posed serious challenges for timely grievance redressal and community safety.

With the operationalization of the new booth, locals can now expect quicker response times and more accessible police support, especially during emergencies. The initiative is part of the Andaman & Nicobar Police’s broader effort to decentralize policing services and enhance public engagement.

Residents welcomed the move and expressed appreciation for what they described as a much-needed and timely intervention. The new facility is expected to not only improve law and order but also foster stronger ties between the police and the public.

The police have urged citizens to report any information regarding criminal or illegal activities to the nearest police station or via phone at 100, 112, or 03192-273344. Informers’ identities will be kept confidential and may be eligible for rewards.
