In a significant move to strengthen drinking water infrastructure, the Andaman & Nicobar Administration has accorded sanction for the installation and commissioning of four high-capacity water pumps to ensure uninterrupted and improved water supply in the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC) area.

The project involves the installation of four 410 HP pumps at an approved cost of ₹2.69 crore. The initiative underscores the Administration’s commitment to enhancing critical civic infrastructure and improving public service delivery.

With the enhanced pumping capacity, water will be conveyed more efficiently to the SVPMC command tanks, enabling faster filling and easing pressure on the existing distribution network. Officials said the project is expected to significantly improve water supply efficiency and reliability across the affected areas.

The decision addresses a long-pending demand raised by Ward Councillors regarding low water pressure in several localities. Residents of Garacharma and Bazaar areas are expected to be major beneficiaries of the project, with the new system ensuring a more consistent and dependable supply of drinking water.
