Administration to Honour & Recognise Outstanding Sportspersons; Cash Prizes Announced for National and International Achievements

In a move to honour and recognise exceptional athletes who have excelled at national and international levels, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Administration has invited nominations for outstanding sportspersons. Government departments and State Level Sports Associations recognised by the Andaman and Nicobar State Sports Council (A&N SSC) have been asked to submit the names of athletes who secured medals or top positions in recognised national and international competitions held between April 2022 and March 2023, and between April 2023 and March 2024.

The nominations are to be submitted using a prescribed form, which can be obtained from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, A&N Administration, during office hours. The completed forms, along with attested copies of certificates issued by the relevant organisation, association, or national federation, must be submitted at the Office of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, located at Netaji Stadium, on or before September 15, 2024.

As part of the recognition, the Administration has announced substantial cash prizes for athletes achieving top positions in various competitions. The prize amounts vary depending on the level of competition and the position secured. 

For National Championships, both individual and team events, the cash awards are as follows:

Sub-Junior National Championship/National School Games:

  – 1st Position (Gold Medal): ₹30,000

  – 2nd Position (Silver Medal): ₹25,000

  – 3rd Position (Bronze Medal): ₹20,000

Junior National Championship/National School Games:

  – 1st Position (Gold Medal): ₹35,000

  – 2nd Position (Silver Medal): ₹30,000

  – 3rd Position (Bronze Medal): ₹25,000

Senior National Championship:

  – 1st Position (Gold Medal): ₹50,000

  – 2nd Position (Silver Medal): ₹35,000

  – 3rd Position (Bronze Medal): ₹25,000

National Women Sports Festival:

  – 1st Position (Gold Medal): ₹50,000

  – 2nd Position (Silver Medal): ₹35,000

  – 3rd Position (Bronze Medal): ₹25,000

National Competitions under the PYKKA Scheme:

  – 1st Position (Gold Medal): ₹50,000

  – 2nd Position (Silver Medal): ₹35,000

  – 3rd Position (Bronze Medal): ₹25,000

Special Olympics (National) for Mentally/Physically Challenged Sportspersons:

  – 1st Position (Gold Medal): ₹50,000

  – 2nd Position (Silver Medal): ₹35,000

  – 3rd Position (Bronze Medal): ₹25,000

For the National Games:

– 1st Position (Gold Medal): ₹3,00,000

– 2nd Position (Silver Medal): ₹2,00,000

– 3rd Position (Bronze Medal): ₹1,00,000

For International Competitions, including the Commonwealth Games and Olympics:

Asian Championship:

  – 1st Position (Gold Medal): ₹4,00,000

  – 2nd Position (Silver Medal): ₹3,00,000

  – 3rd Position (Bronze Medal): ₹2,00,000

Asian Games/Commonwealth Games:

  – 1st Position (Gold Medal): ₹5,00,000

  – 2nd Position (Silver Medal): ₹4,00,000

  – 3rd Position (Bronze Medal): ₹3,00,000

Olympics:

  – 1st Position (Gold Medal): ₹10,00,000

  – 2nd Position (Silver Medal): ₹8,00,000

  – 3rd Position (Bronze Medal): ₹6,00,000

This initiative underscores the Administration’s commitment to fostering sports excellence in the region by not only recognising but also rewarding the hard work and dedication of its sportspersons.
