The State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA), under the Directorate of Social Welfare, organised an adoption awareness program on November 29, 2024, at the Bambooflat Tsunami Shelter. The program aimed to educate Anganwadi workers and the general public about the legal adoption process and to promote positive attitudes towards adoption.
Ms. T. Dharmila, Program Officer of SARA, highlighted the importance of legal adoptions, dispelling common misconceptions and fostering a positive outlook on the practice. She also provided insights into the newly recognised Specialised Adoption Agencies in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, explaining their roles in facilitating the adoption process and guiding adoptive parents throughout their journey.
Ms. Suman S. Barla, Protection Officer (NIC) of the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), elaborated on the legal aspects of adoption, including the necessary procedures and documentation. She emphasised the importance of ensuring every child has a loving and stable home while helping prospective adoptive parents understand the legal framework involved.
Ms. Anitha Rao, Mukhiya Sevika, encouraged attendees to share the information they gained with their friends and family members. She urged Anganwadi workers and the public to identify and motivate individuals in their communities who might be considering adoption to connect with the Directorate of Social Welfare at Room No. 308 for further guidance.
The program concluded with an open discussion, during which attendees shared suggestions and pledged to spread awareness about adoption in their communities.
