The Department of Agriculture, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, commemorated Antyodaya Diwas on 25th September 2025, marking the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, a visionary leader whose philosophy of Integral Humanism continues to inspire inclusive development.
As part of the ongoing Sewa Pakhwada, the department organized a special tree plantation drive titled “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” at the Organic Horticulture Farm, Sippighat. The event saw enthusiastic participation from officials, farmers, and other stakeholders, reflecting a collective commitment to environmental conservation and grassroots empowerment.
Ms. Priyanka Kumari, Director of Agriculture, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, graced the occasion and planted nutmeg seedlings. Progressive farmers also joined the initiative, planting black pepper vines to promote sustainable spice cultivation and self-reliant agriculture in the region.
The initiative underscores the department’s dedication to the ideals of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, focusing on uplifting marginalized communities and enhancing economic resilience through ecological action. Plantation of spice trees is being viewed as a strategic step to foster sustainable livelihoods and improve biodiversity across the islands.
The tree plantation drive is being actively implemented across all zones of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, garnering widespread participation from farming communities and local stakeholders.
