The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), in collaboration with the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), conducted a practical demonstration programme on the importance of vaccination and deworming in poultry at the field of Ms. Jalpana Mistry in R.K. Pur, Little Andaman.

A total of 15 participants, mostly members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), attended the programme. The participants witnessed a live demonstration of vaccination and deworming procedures in poultry birds and were sensitised about the critical role these practices play in preventing mortality, enhancing disease resistance, and maintaining overall flock health.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. R.K. Singh, Retired Joint Director of the Department, highlighted best practices in scientific poultry management and emphasised the need for timely vaccination and regular deworming to improve productivity and ensure sustainable backyard poultry farming.

To encourage the adoption of scientific management practices, poultry feed worth Rs. 3,200 was distributed among the participants at the conclusion of the programme.

In a related initiative at another location, two dairy farmers were provided with fodder stem cuttings to facilitate the development of backyard fodder plots, aimed at strengthening local dairy practices.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Promila Roy, Pashu Sakhi.
