In celebration of the 76th Van Mahotsav, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Forests, conducted a tree plantation drive on July 30 at the Dairy Training-cum-Demonstration Farm, Livestock Farm Complex (LFC), Dollygunj. Themed ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, the initiative aimed to foster environmental sustainability and expand the green cover across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Ms. Pallavi Sarkar, IAS, Secretary (AH&VS), graced the occasion as the chief guest. The event was attended by senior officials including Dr. K.A. Naveen, Director (AH&VS), Dr. Ajay Verma, Joint Director (AH&VS), and Ms. Lalita Singh, Assistant Conservator of Forests. Also present were Mr. Giri, Deputy Ranger, and other officers from both departments. Dr. Subhash B. Palve, Senior Veterinary Officer, coordinated the event with active support from the staff of AH&VS.
A total of 100 fruit-bearing and other saplings, provided by the Forest Department, were planted across the campus of the Livestock Farm Complex. The drive underscored the importance of afforestation for maintaining ecological balance and supporting sustainable agricultural practices.
Highlighting the joint efforts of both departments, the event reflected the A&N Administration’s commitment to integrating environmental sustainability with agricultural and animal husbandry initiatives. Officials reaffirmed their resolve to continue organizing such programs that not only promote green practices but also empower rural communities through awareness and participation.
