In a major step towards enhancing livestock health and improving rural livelihoods, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), Andaman & Nicobar Administration, conducted a comprehensive animal infertility intervention drive from July 16 to 29, 2025. The initiative spanned 83 villages across the Islands’ rural belt, aiming to address reproductive health challenges and nutritional deficiencies among cattle.

As part of the campaign, veterinary teams examined 2,299 cows out of 4,548 identified breedable animals. Targeted health and fertility interventions were carried out during the drive, with 1,411 cattle dewormed to support digestive health, 1,405 animals provided with mineral mixture supplements to correct nutritional imbalances, and 1,044 cows receiving specialized reproductive treatments, including hormonal and nutritional support, to improve conception rates and milk output.

Beyond clinical care, the Department also conducted farmer awareness programs to promote scientific animal husbandry practices. These sessions focused on balanced nutrition, disease prevention, and reproductive health management, equipping livestock owners with the tools to enhance productivity and ensure sustainable calving cycles.

This island-wide initiative highlights the AH&VS Department’s continued commitment to supporting the rural economy by improving livestock performance and farm incomes. The Department has affirmed its intention to continue such focused drives, in line with the A&N Administration’s broader mission of achieving sustainable rural development and food security.
