Port Blair, 17 June 2022
Airport Authority of India has equipped Veer Savarkar International Airport, Port Blair with an Ambulift for the hassle-free movement of passengers with reduced mobility (PRM), Divyangjan, patients etc. Airports Authority of India has been actively supporting the Accessible India Campaign and equipping all its airports with new facilities and services for the convenience of divyangjan and people with reduced mobility. Accessible India is a flagship campaign for achieving universal accessibility driven countrywide by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
Ambulift services at Port Blair will benefit a lot of passengers as now they will be able to undertake a comfortable journey even without an attender. Earlier different airlines used to follow different processes for boarding wheelchair passengers.
Indigo first introduced a comfortable boarding experience for wheelchair passengers by removing the stairs from their boarding ramp.
Introducing such small facilities at Airports will not only make the journey of the wheelchair passengers comfortable but will also encourage them to travel more and seek out the world.
