Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, State President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has requested the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to restart the registration of Commercial Passenger Vehicles for Shaheed Dweep and Swaraj Dweep.
Mr. Ajoy Bairagi in his letter has mentioned that the people are hopeful that the Islands will attract a huge number of tourists in the season starting later this year. He mentioned that the tourists face a lot of difficulties during the peak tourism season in Shaheed Dweep and Swaraj Deep due to the non-availability of an adequate number of commercial passenger vehicles.
He also mentioned that to manage the large inflow of tourists the agents have to use the same cab for multiple guests which causes dissatisfaction among the visiting tourists.
Mr. Bairagi also informed that the GOI has come up with an Electric Vehicle Policy and the Directorate of Transport, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has also released the draft notification. He added that the Electric Vehicle Policy will push people towards green vehicles in future if the adequate choice of Green Vehicles, fast charging stations and supporting infrastructure is made available.
He added that we are far behind in the adoption of EVs and we need to create more infrastructure and other allied service facilities for the EVs.
He requested the LG to start the registration of Commercial Passenger Vehicles for Shaheed Dweep and Swaraj Dweep to avoid any inconvenience to visiting tourists.
