Ajoy Bairagi to Visit Katchal Today to Meet the Protesting Sri Lankan Tamil Settlers

Shri. Ajoy Bairagi, State President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands will visit Katchal today to meet the protesting Sri Lankan Tamil Settlers. Sri Lankan Tamil Settlers of Katchal Island have been protesting for their resettlement to a non-tribal area since the last 65 days and the members of their community are also on relay hunger strike since the last 60 days.

This is the first time that any political leader is visiting Katchal after the Sri Lankan Tamil Settlers started their protests in Katchal Island. It is being reported that Shri. N K Udhaya Kumar, State President, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha will accompany Shri. Ajoy Bairagi during the visit to Katchal Island.

The dignitaries will reach Katchal today by helicopter and will meet the protesting Sri Lankan Tamil  Settlers. The Tribal Council of Katchal has also been demanding the resettlement of the Sri Lankan Tamil Settlers from Katchal Island to a non-tribal area.

Earlier the Bharatiya Janata Party had taken up the issue of the resettlement of the Sri Lankan Tamil Settlers with the Minister of State for Home Affairs during his visit to Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Bharatiya Janata Party has been seriously pursuing the issue of the resettlement of these Sri Lankan Tamil Settlers of Katchal Island with the higher authorities of Andaman and Nicobar Administration and the Ministries. 

After the meeting with the Sri Lankan Tamil Settlers Shri. Ajoy Bairagi and Shri. N.K Udhaya Kumar is scheduled to reach Nancowry today by evening hours. They will stay overnight at Nancowry and reach Campbell Bay by M.V Nancowry ship.

At Campbell Bay the dignitaries are scheduled to address the local BJP leaders and karyakartas. Shri. Sanjay Kumar Singh, State Vice President of Bharatiya Janata Party who hails from Campbell Bay will also be present during the occasion. This will be Shri. Ajoy Bairagi’s first visit to the Nicobar Group after assuming the charge of the State President of Bharatiya Janata Party.

Meanwhile there is some issue with the BSNL Mobile Network in Katchal Island because of which there has been no communication with the protesting Sri Lankan Tamil Settlers since more than one week.
