In a swift operation on September 24, 2024, the Ograbraj Police Station team apprehended an individual for illegally transporting a substantial quantity of liquor in the Chouldari area. The proactive efforts of the beat staff led to the seizure of 24 sealed bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), marking a significant success in curbing illegal liquor sales in the region.
The operation was carried out by Head Constable (HC) Ashok Roy, along with Police Constable (PC) Martin and Home Guard (HG) B. Thamma Rao, while they were on routine beat patrol. Acting on a tip-off about illegal liquor sales in the area, the officers quickly mobilized, with support from HC Sumati Kumari. The team positioned themselves near Swadesh Agro Farm in Chouldari, where they observed a suspicious motorcycle, a Hero Ignitor with registration number AN01-L-2566, approaching from the local market.
The officers stopped the rider for inspection and discovered a bag containing 24 bottles of Bagpiper Deluxe Supreme Whiskey, each measuring 375 ml. The rider, identified as Senpagapandi @ Mani, a 26-year-old from Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu, currently residing in Nayagaon Rainbow Colony, was unable to provide the required permit or license for transporting such a large quantity of alcohol.
Following this, an FIR was registered under Section 32 of the Excise Regulation of 1876. The seized liquor and vehicle were also impounded as part of the investigation.
This operation highlights the vigilance and dedication of the Ograbraj Police in tackling illegal activities and maintaining law and order in the area. The police continue to prioritize public safety, taking firm action against unlawful behaviour, and encouraging citizens to play a role in keeping their communities secure.
The entire operation was led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Devanand Pathak, Station House Officer (SHO) of PS Ograbraj, under the guidance of Mr. Brij Mohan Meena, DANIPS, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Bambooflat, and under the overall supervision of Ms. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District.
