The Andaman & Nicobar Administration has accorded approval for the resurfacing of the vital road connecting Hawaghar (Nayagaon) to Corbyn’s Cove, sanctioning an amount of ₹4.50 crore for the project. The improvement work is expected to commence shortly.

In view of the severely deteriorated condition of the road and the approaching monsoon season, the Administration directed the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD) to expedite the tender process and ensure early award of the work after receipt of the financial sanction. Accordingly, the tendering process has already been completed.

The road has been prioritised due to its strategic importance as a secondary access route to South Andaman, particularly the SVP (Secretariat/VVIP) Headquarters area, from Chidiyatapu and Garacharma. The stretch experiences heavy traffic movement, including commercial vehicles transporting quarry materials, which has further contributed to its wear and tear.

As part of the project, resurfacing will be carried out by laying Bituminous Macadam (BM) and Bituminous Concrete (BC) layers, which are expected to significantly improve the surface quality of the road. The upgraded carriageway will ensure smoother travel for commuters and enhance overall traffic flow.

The project will cover a stretch of approximately 3 kilometres and is targeted for completion before the onset of the monsoon to minimise inconvenience to residents, commuters and businesses. Once completed, the improved road infrastructure is expected to contribute to safer and more efficient transportation in the region.
