The Department of Social Welfare of the Andaman and Nicobar (A&N) Administration has introduced a series of Anganwadi-cum-Creches across various locations, marking a significant policy shift aimed at providing essential childcare facilities to all mothers, regardless of their employment status. These centers are now operational at Brichgunj-3, Chakargaon, School Line–I, Suryachakra-Bambooflat, Myabunder Jetty-Sector 6, Lataw-Sector 6, and Diglipur-Sector 2.
With the changing dynamics of family support systems, where extended families previously played a crucial role in childcare, many working mothers now face challenges in balancing their professional and childcare responsibilities. These new Anganwadi-cum-Creches aim to address these challenges by offering quality day care services.
Equipped with play and educational facilities, as well as providing meals and snacks, these Anganwadi Centres are designed to cater to the developmental and nutritional needs of children below the age of six. Parents interested in enrolling their children can contact the Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Projects in Urban (Dollygunj), Ferrargunj, Rangat, and Diglipur for further clarification and enrollment details.
