The Directorate of Information, Publicity & Tourism (IP&T) of the Andaman and Nicobar (A&N) Administration has announced the release of a draft ‘Policy for Development and Promotion of Houseboat Tourism in the A&N Islands.’ This initiative is aimed at promoting houseboat tourism while ensuring it is conducted in a sustainable and responsible manner, safeguarding the natural resources of the islands and enhancing the overall experience for visitors.
The draft policy outlines a framework for the operation of houseboats, with a focus on various critical aspects such as regulatory compliance, navigational safety, and environmental considerations, including the necessity of proper sewage treatment facilities.
In an effort to engage the community and relevant stakeholders, the draft policy has been made available for public review. The Directorate of IP&T is inviting suggestions, comments, and inputs from the general public, tourism industry stakeholders, and various departments. Interested parties can access the draft policy on the official website of the Directorate of IP&T at https://www.andamantourism.gov.in.
Feedback can be submitted to the Directorate of IP&T within a 30-day window, starting from August 30, 2024, and concluding on September 30, 2024.
