In a first for the archipelago, the Directorate of Education and the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, in collaboration with the Andaman Nicobar Chess Association, is set to organize the ‘Andaman-Nicobar Chess Mahasangram 2025’, a FIDE Rapid Rating Open Chess Tournament.
The landmark tournament will be held on April 19 and 20, 2025, at Netaji Stadium, Sri Vijaya Puram, in the Open Ground under floodlights, promising an electrifying atmosphere for chess enthusiasts. Open to players of all skill levels, the tournament offers participants a unique opportunity to earn official FIDE Rapid Ratings, helping players gain recognition and improve their rankings on the international stage.
Entry to the tournament is free, but all participants must hold a valid AICF (All India Chess Federation) registration for the year 2025-26. The last date to register for the tournament is April 12, 2025, by 5:30 PM.
