Schools across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands marked the 1st International Olympic Day on June 23, 2025, with a series of vibrant and engaging activities aimed at promoting the core Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship, and Respect. The celebration commemorated the founding of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894 and aligned with global observances of Olympic Day.
The event was organized under the guidance of the Sports Section of the Directorate of Education, Sri Vijaya Puram, which actively encouraged schools to observe the day in a meaningful and impactful manner, reinforcing the importance of physical education and sports in holistic student development.
To mark the occasion, schools conducted a variety of activities including awareness sessions on the Olympic movement, drawing competitions, and an array of sports events. Students enthusiastically participated in athletics, football, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, chess, and more—demonstrating remarkable talent, discipline, and sportsmanship.
Quiz competitions on the history of the Olympic Games and legendary athletes further enriched the celebrations, sparking curiosity and strengthening students’ knowledge of international sporting heritage.
The celebrations created an inclusive platform for students to showcase their skills while fostering unity, discipline, and national pride. The spirited participation across schools reflected a growing enthusiasm for sports and highlighted the value of teamwork and fair play.
The Director (Education) and the Sports Section of the A&N Administration played a pivotal role in facilitating these celebrations, reaffirming their commitment to nurturing a strong sporting culture and supporting the physical and moral development of students through structured sports initiatives.
