World Breastfeeding Week 2025 is being observed across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from August 1 to 7, with the global theme “Invest in Breastfeeding, Invest in the Future.” The week-long campaign highlights the critical need for enhanced policy support and community awareness to protect and promote breastfeeding as a cornerstone of human development.

The initiative aims to create a safe and supportive environment where mothers can breastfeed confidently, with a strong emphasis on early initiation within one hour of birth, exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, and continued breastfeeding up to two years or beyond.

To intensify public awareness, promotional activities will be carried out at both the community and facility levels throughout the islands. Health care providers will use every point of contact during the week to educate mothers and families on the benefits of breastfeeding. These activities will be implemented in collaboration with stakeholders from both public and private institutions, with a focus on capacity building and sustained engagement.

All health institutions across the A&N Islands will participate in the campaign, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to maternal and child health through the promotion of breastfeeding.
