A&N Islands Secures Second Position in National Folk Dance Competition

The Government Model Senior Secondary School, Aberdeen Folk Dance Team brought laurels to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands by securing second position at the National Level Folk Dance Competition organized under the National Population Education Project (NPEP) of the Department of Education (Social Science), NCERT.

The National Role Play and Folk-Dance Competition was held from January 6 to 9 at the Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE), Shakti Nagar, Mela Road, Gwalior. State-level winning teams in Role Play and Folk Dance from across the country participated in the national event.

Representing the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the folk dance team delivered a powerful performance based on the theme “Gender Equality” and earned widespread appreciation, securing second place at the national level. The achievement reflects the students’ dedication, teamwork, and commitment to promoting social awareness through cultural expression.

The folk dance team comprised Sri Shana, Saina Halder, Anshu Pandey, P. Vinitha, Isha Mondal, and Sneha Shastri, all students of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Aberdeen. The team was choreographed and trained by Ms. V. Radhika, CI (Dance), with support from Ms. Sridevi M., Lab Assistant, GMSSS, Aberdeen.

The national-level competition under the NPEP project was coordinated by Mr. Tarpan Sarkar, staff member, Office of the Deputy Director of Education (Science).
