The Andaman & Nicobar Mahila Congress has strongly condemned the derogatory and misogynistic remarks allegedly made by Madhya Pradesh Minister Vijay Shah against Indian Army officer Colonel Sofiya Qureshi. The organization has demanded Shah’s immediate dismissal from the Madhya Pradesh cabinet.

In a statement issued, A&N Mahila Congress President Ms. Zubaida Begum expressed deep outrage over the minister’s comments, calling them “unacceptable” and “a reflection of a regressive mindset.”

“Colonel Sofiya Qureshi is a proud and dedicated officer of the Indian Army. She deserves recognition and respect—not slander,” said Begum. “Such remarks have no place in public discourse or governance. They not only demean a decorated officer but also insult the dignity of women across the country.”

Ms. Begum further called on the Government to take immediate action by removing Shah from his ministerial position. She also urged the Madhya Pradesh High Court and the Supreme Court to intervene and ensure justice is served.

“The Mahila Congress will not remain silent in the face of such injustice. If appropriate and swift action is not taken, we are ready to launch a widespread people’s movement to protect the honor and dignity of every woman in India,” she warned.

The party’s strong stance underscores growing calls across the country for accountability and respectful treatment of women in public life.
