Andaman and Nicobar Police, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), organized an interactive session for investigating officers at the Police Headquarters (PHQ) Conference Hall. The session aimed to enhance the legal knowledge and investigative skills of officers involved in criminal investigations.
The event was chaired by Hon’ble District and Sessions Judge Mr. Sudhir Kumar, who provided valuable insights into the legal intricacies of investigations. The session also saw participation of other distinguished judicial officials, including Hon’ble Family Judge Mr. Dipendra Nath Mitra, Chief Judicial Magistrate Mr. Arkabrati Neogi, and Judicial Magistrate First Class Mr. Anupam Sircar.
The officials delivered comprehensive insights on critical topics such as ensuring compliance with statutory provisions under the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, maintaining confidentiality of victims’ identities, joining independent witnesses in investigations, and timely execution of summons and warrants. These discussions significantly contributed to improving the legal acumen of the attending officers.
Hon’ble District and Sessions Judge Mr. Sudhir Kumar also engaged in a lively interaction with the officers, addressing their queries on various investigative procedures and clarifying legal concepts.
The session was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police (District) South Andaman, SSP (CID), SPs from Anti-Poaching Unit and PHQ, SDPO (South Andaman), Deputy SP (District HQ), Station House Officers from across the islands, and over 100 officers who participated both in person and virtually from North and Middle Andaman District, Nicobar District, and Swaraj Dweep Sub-Division.
At the conclusion of the session, DGP, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS, presented mementos to the judicial officials as a token of appreciation for their valuable contributions. The judicial officials, in turn, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to share knowledge and enhance the legal awareness of the investigating officers.
The session was hailed as a significant step in fostering collaboration between the police and the judiciary, ultimately strengthening the investigative process in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
