The Andaman & Nicobar Police observed National Police Commemoration Day with solemnity and honour today, paying tribute to police personnel across the country who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

A Commemoration Day Parade was held at the Parade Ground, Police Lines, where Mr. Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS, Director General of Police (A&N Islands), led the wreath-laying ceremony. Senior officers of the A&N Police, families of martyrs, and retired Deputy Superintendents of Police attended the event to pay homage to the fallen heroes.

Speaking on the occasion, dignitaries highlighted the invaluable contribution of police personnel in maintaining peace and public safety and lauded the courage and dedication of those who made the supreme sacrifice in service to the nation.

October 21 is observed nationwide as Police Commemoration Day to honour the ten valiant Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel martyred during an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs, Ladakh, in 1959. Since then, the day has been marked annually to remember all police personnel who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

To commemorate their legacy, a National Police Memorial – “Shaheed Vedi” – has been established at Hot Springs, Ladakh, where representatives from police forces across the country gather every year to pay homage.

The observance serves as a solemn reminder of the selfless service, dedication, and unwavering commitment of police personnel towards ensuring the safety and security of the nation. (Story Based on PR)
