The Andaman & Nicobar State Legal Services Authority, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority, conducted a Legal Awareness Programme at JNRM on 1st December 2025, to mark World AIDS Day 2025. The initiative drew active participation from students across the institution.
The programme was attended by Mr. Rashid Alam, Registrar, Calcutta High Court, Circuit Bench at Port Blair, Mr. Anupam Sircar, Judicial Magistrate First Class, Additional Court, Port Blair, and Mr. Jayanta Mukherjee, Judicial Magistrate First Class, 2nd Court, Port Blair.
Addressing the participants, the speakers highlighted key aspects related to HIV/AIDS, including methods of transmission, prevention, and the importance of regular testing and timely treatment. They also emphasized dispelling myths and misconceptions surrounding HIV/AIDS and reiterated the need to eliminate stigma and discrimination against persons living with the condition.
The dignitaries further sensitized students on the legal rights, entitlements, and protections available for individuals affected by HIV/AIDS, as well as the legal aid services and welfare schemes offered through the DLSA.
They underscored the collective responsibility of society in building an informed, compassionate, and inclusive environment for those impacted by HIV/AIDS.
The programme concluded with an interactive session, where students engaged in discussions and raised queries, reflecting their strong interest in the subject.
