The Andaman & Nicobar Chamber of Commerce & Industries (ANCCI) has urged all its members, business houses, and commercial establishments to cooperate with the Administration in light of the ongoing power shortage affecting the islands.

The appeal comes after a meeting held on August 2, 2025, at the Secretariat Conference Hall, chaired by Mr. Pravesh Jha, Director (Power), to discuss power demand-side management. The meeting was attended by officials from the Electricity Department, members of ANCCI, and representatives of the Hotel Association.

During the meeting, the Director (Power) informed attendees that the current power shortage is expected to continue for the next three months. To manage the crisis, the Administration has proposed several measures, seeking cooperation from the trade and hospitality sectors.

Key measures include:

– All hotels and restaurants must operate on their own generators from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

– All commercial offices and establishments should close by 6:00 p.m.

– Shops and markets should shut by 7:30 p.m.

In response, ANCCI has appealed to all stakeholders to extend cooperation as requested by the administration.
