The Department of Fisheries and Department of Tourism, A & N Administration, in collaboration with the Indian Embassy in Bangkok, hosted a significant Investment Seminar on Fisheries and Tourism Sectors on January 19, 2024. The event aimed to showcase the untapped potential of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and foster partnerships with investors from Thailand.
The seminar commenced with a warm welcome from H.E. Mr. Nagesh Singh, Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Thailand. Following this, Mr. Keshav Chandra, Chief Secretary of A&N Administration, addressed the attendees, highlighting the abundant resources and opportunities for expansion in the Fisheries and Tourism Sectors of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Mr. Chandra urged investors to consider opportunities in Deep Sea Tuna Fishing, Processing, and related fields within the Fisheries Sector. Additionally, he encouraged investments in Tourism and Civil Aviation for the comprehensive development of the islands. Notably, he mentioned the upcoming development plans for Islands like Smith, Aves, Long Island, and Shaheed Dweep, earmarked for luxury eco-tourism resorts.
Mr. Vishwendra, Secretary of Fisheries, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, provided a detailed overview of the present status and potential for development in these sectors. The creation of a distinct brand for Andaman in the Fisheries Sector was emphasized during the presentations.
The Investor Summit saw three detailed presentations covering Fisheries, Tourism, and Civil Aviation. Delegates from Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Thailand engaged in productive discussions, exchanging notes and exploring potential partnerships.
A total of 106 participants, representing various sectors from Thailand and Andaman and Nicobar, actively participated in the seminar. Noteworthy attendees included government officials from the Indian Embassy, such as Ploumi Tripathi, Deputy Chief Mission, and Mr. Dharmender Singh, First Secretary. Officials from Departments like NIOT and MPEDA also graced the occasion.
The Investor Summit concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Bhaskar Kalra, Commercial Attache to the Indian Embassy, expressing gratitude to all participants and stakeholders for their valuable contributions.
