In a momentous stride towards fostering innovation and economic growth, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been honoured with the title of ‘Aspiring Leader’ in the Startup Ranking 2022. This recognition, bestowed by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, signifies the archipelago’s dedicated commitment to cultivating a conducive environment for startups.
The Startup Ranking 2022 is a comprehensive evaluation that assesses the startup ecosystems of different regions, acknowledging those that have made significant contributions to creating a thriving space for emerging businesses. Among the Category ‘B’ States, with a population of less than one crore, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have emerged as a standout region, showcasing immense potential to become a leading hub for startups.
This achievement is a culmination of collaborative efforts between the Government, local authorities, and the vibrant entrepreneurial community in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The region has adopted a forward-looking approach, implementing policies and initiatives that not only encourage innovation but also attract investment, providing substantial support for the growth of startups across diverse sectors.
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands currently boast 53 DPIIT recognised startups, with a noteworthy 22 being led by women. The key sectors driving the startup landscape in these islands include Construction and Engineering, Travel and Tourism, and the Information Technology sector.
This accolade stands as a testament to the region’s progressive stance, reflecting its commitment to creating a conducive ecosystem that nurtures entrepreneurship and paves the way for a dynamic and flourishing startup community.
