A two-day coastal security exercise titled “Sagar Kavach – SKV 01/25” will be conducted across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on April 30 and May 1, 2025. The large-scale exercise will involve the coordinated participation of 17 security agencies and aims to rigorously validate the coastal security framework of the region.
The primary objective of the exercise is to assess the preparedness and inter-agency coordination among maritime stakeholders in responding to potential security threats from the sea. The drill will simulate various coastal threat scenarios to test real-time responsiveness and ensure readiness.
Authorities have issued advisories for local residents and fishermen in view of the exercise. Fishermen have been asked to carry valid identification and relevant documents while venturing out to sea. Members of the general public are also urged to keep their ID cards with them at all times during the exercise period.
Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity or unidentified movement to the Police Marine Force Control Room at 1093 or the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) helpline at 112.
Officials have emphasized that there is no cause for alarm, and the public is advised not to panic during the course of the exercise. Cooperation from all residents is sought to ensure the smooth and successful execution of this important security operation, which plays a vital role in strengthening the region’s maritime safety.
