Andaman and Nicobar Islands, renowned for their scenic beauty and unique ecosystem, face the constant threat of natural disasters due to their location in a high-risk seismic zone-V. Acknowledging this reality, the Andaman and Nicobar Police has remained vigilant, prioritising disaster preparedness to ensure the safety and security of the island communities.
Andaman and Nicobar Police, in collaboration with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), has taken extensive efforts to enhance disaster response capabilities. A total of 206 personnel from the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn) underwent rigorous training conducted by the NDRF team stationed at the IRBn campus as part of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) initiative.
Further IRBn is now enhancing the capabilities of its personnel by refresher training courses focused on Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) and Medical First Response (MFR). The training covers a wide spectrum of essential skills crucial for effective disaster response. From Structural Collapse Rescue and Incident Command System (ICS) to Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Strategies and Basic Life Support (BLS) Techniques, the curriculum is designed to equip personnel with the latest tools and methodologies available.
Under the guidance of Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivatsava, DGP, ANI, and the supervision of Ms. Sindhu Pillai A, IPS, IGP, ANI, along with the leadership of Ms. Monika Bharadwaj, DIGP(IRBn), and Ms. Shweta K Sugathan, Commandant (IRBn), the collaborative effort between the A&N Police and the NDRF underscores a shared commitment to proactive disaster preparedness and response.
By providing the personnel with advanced training and equipping them with the latest tools and techniques, A & N Police aims to enhance the readiness to respond effectively to any disaster or emergency situation.
The partnership between the A&N Police and the NDRF reflects a concerted effort to safeguard the lives and properties of the residents of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Through ongoing training initiatives and collaborative endeavours, both organisations remain dedicated to ensuring the resilience of the island communities in the face of potential disasters.
