In response to a surge in cyber fraud cases related to fake job offers circulating on WhatsApp, the Andaman and Nicobar Police has issued a comprehensive advisory to safeguard citizens against falling victim to such scams.

Cyber fraudsters are capitalising on the growing interest in work-from-home (WFH) opportunities amid the pandemic, using WhatsApp to send fake job offers. These deceptive messages contain malicious phishing links aimed at tricking unsuspecting users into financial fraud.

To counter this threat, the Andaman and Nicobar Police has outlined several precautionary measures in their advisory:

1. Ignore messages from unknown numbers.

2. Refrain from clicking on unfamiliar links received through messages on any online platforms.

3. Seek job-related information only from authorised company/organisation websites.

4. Install and regularly update antivirus software on digital devices for enhanced security.

5. Promptly block and report any numbers associated with fake job offers.

6. Stay informed about cyber frauds and scams.

7. Enable two-factor authentication and fingerprint options provided by online platforms.

8. Practice safe online habits at all times.

Citizens are urged to seek assistance, information, or report any suspicious activities to the Cyber Crime Police Station in A&N Islands. They can reach out via the National Helpline No. 1930 or the A&N Police Helpline No. 9531856083. Additionally, individuals can visit cybercrime.gov.in for further guidance and support.

The Andaman and Nicobar Police’s advisory serves as a crucial reminder for the public to remain vigilant and adopt necessary precautions to protect themselves against cyber threats in today’s digital age.
