Andaman and Nicobar Police has issued a cautionary advisory to the public regarding a surge in cyber fraudsters exploiting the growing interest in work-from-home (WFH) opportunities. These scammers are leveraging WhatsApp to circulate fake job offers, intending to deceive individuals into falling victim to phishing scams and potential financial frauds.

The fraudulent messages, designed to appear as legitimate job offers, contain malicious links aimed at compromising users’ personal information and financial security. To combat these deceitful tactics, the Andaman and Nicobar Police has released a comprehensive set of guidelines to help individuals safeguard themselves against such scams.

The advisory strongly recommends several precautionary measures:

1. Ignore Messages from Unknown Numbers: Refrain from engaging with or responding to messages from unfamiliar or suspicious sources.

2. Avoid Clicking Unfamiliar Links: Exercise caution when encountering links in messages from unknown sources, refraining from clicking on them to prevent potential security breaches.

3. Verify Job Information from Authorised Sources: Seek job-related information exclusively from verified and authorised company websites to ensure authenticity.

4. Install Updated Anti-Virus Software: Maintain updated and robust anti-virus software across all digital devices for enhanced security and protection against cyber threats.

5. Promptly Block and Report Suspicious Numbers: Take immediate action by blocking suspicious numbers and reporting fraudulent offers to the authorities.

6. Stay Informed About Cyber Frauds: Remain updated about prevalent cyber frauds and scams to recognise and avoid potential threats.

7. Implement Enhanced Security Measures: Enable 2-factor authentication and fingerprint options provided by online platforms for an additional layer of security.

8. Practice Safe Online Behaviour: Consistently adhere to safe online practices to minimise the risk of falling victim to cyber fraud.

The advisory stresses the importance of contacting the Cyber Cell in Port Blair for any assistance, information, or inquiries related to cybercrime. Individuals can reach out via the Cyber Helpline at No.1930 or contact 9531856083. Additionally, further details and support can be accessed through the cybercrime.gov.in website.

Andaman and Nicobar Police urge the public to remain vigilant, follow the provided guidelines diligently, and exercise caution while navigating online platforms, especially when encountering unsolicited job offers. By adopting these precautionary measures, individuals can actively shield themselves against the pervasive threat of cyber fraud.
