As the public becomes increasingly vigilant about cyber threats, criminals are adapting and creating new methods to exploit unsuspecting individuals. The Andaman and Nicobar Police have issued a public advisory warning residents about a rising scam involving fake delivery parcels aimed at extracting One Time Passwords (OTPs) for fraudulent activities.

Cybercriminals orchestrating these scams often collaborate with delivery agents or agencies to carry out their deceitful plans. The criminals identify individuals who frequently receive packages from various e-commerce companies and then strategically target them to obtain sensitive information.

To counteract this threat, the Andaman and Nicobar Police have outlined the following guidelines to help citizens safeguard themselves:

1. Verify Order History: Prior to accepting or canceling any package, individuals are urged to confirm their order history and expected delivery dates.

2. Avoid Clicking on Suspicious Links: Refrain from clicking on any links received via SMS related to package deliveries. Cybercriminals often use these links to manipulate victims.

3. Scrutinize URLs: Exercise caution and thoroughly inspect all URLs (links) before opening or providing any personal information or OTPs.

4. Limit Personal Information Sharing: Avoid sharing unnecessary personal details such as address, email ID, and phone number unless absolutely required.

5. Exercise Caution with Unexpected Delivery Notices: Do not click on links or call back numbers from unexpected delivery notices received via SMS or email. Verify the authenticity of such communications.

In case of any concerns or for further assistance, residents are encouraged to reach out to the Cyber Crime Police Station in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. They can contact the National Helpline at 1930 or the A&N Police Cyber Helpline at 9531856083. Additionally, individuals can visit cybercrime.gov.in for more information.
