As cybercriminals continue to evolve their tactics, Andaman and Nicobar Police have issued a public advisory cautioning residents about a new scam targeting individuals to obtain OTPs (One Time Passwords) for fraudulent bank transactions and unauthorised access to personal devices through a Fake Parcel Delivery Scam.
These scams, perpetrated by individuals often closely associated with delivery agents or agencies, exploit unsuspecting victims who frequently receive packages from various e-commerce companies. The perpetrators meticulously plan their approach upon identifying individuals with a high volume of incoming deliveries.
In response to this emerging threat, the Andaman and Nicobar Police have issued the following guidelines to help safeguard against such scams:
1. Confirm Orders: Verify your order history and expected delivery dates before accepting or canceling any package.
2. Beware of Links: Refrain from clicking on any links received via SMS related to package deliveries.
3. Scrutinize URLs: Carefully inspect all URLs before opening them or providing any information, especially OTPs.
4. Limit Personal Information: Avoid sharing unnecessary personal details such as address, email, or phone numbers.
5. Exercise Caution: Do not click on links or call back numbers provided in unexpected delivery notices via SMS or email.
For those in need of assistance or further information, individuals are encouraged to contact the Cyber Crime Police Station in A&N Islands via the National Helpline No.1930 or the A&N Police Cyber Helpline No. 9531856083. Alternatively, they can visit cybercrime.gov.in for additional resources.
