On February 28, 2024, the Andaman and Nicobar Police took significant strides in bolstering cyber awareness and accessibility to law enforcement services with the launch of two pioneering initiatives: the “Cyber Suraksha Sankalp Mission” and the “Case Information SMS Service.”
The unveiling took place at the Tagore Auditorium, Middle Point, Port Blair, where a gathering of esteemed guests and participants witnessed the commencement of the event. Mr. Sanjay Kumar Tyagi, IPS, DIGP (Intl.), A&N Islands, welcomed everyone and stressed the criticality of cyber security in today’s digital age. His keynote address highlighted the initiatives undertaken to benefit citizens in the A&N Islands.
Present at the event were Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary, A&N Islands, alongside Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivastva, DGP, A&N Islands, and senior officers from A & N Administration, A & N Command and Police. Mr. Chandra inaugurated both the Case Information SMS Service and the Cyber Suraksha Sankalp Mission during the proceedings.
Under Cyber Suraksha Sankalp Mission, story booklets focusing on cybercrime and a film directed by Padmasree Awardee, Mr. Naresh Chander Lal, illustrating various cybercrime methodologies was screened to to raise awareness about cybercrimes.
The Case Information SMS Service is tailored to provide citizens with real-time updates and acknowledgments throughout different stages of criminal investigations, including FIR registration, assignment of Investigating Officers, and submission of chargesheets/final reports.
Addressing the audience, Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivastava, DGP, A&N Islands, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiatives, aligning them with the digital policing vision of Hon’ble PM Mr. Narendra Modi. He commended the efforts of the Cyber Crime Police Station and CCTNS cell staff for their recent achievements.
Mr. Chandra, Chief Secretary, praised the modernization efforts of the police force and underscored the importance of cyber security, drawing from his personal experience with cybercrime. He emphasized the role of students in promoting cyber awareness among peers and family members.
The event concluded with a captivating performance by the Police entertainment team, featuring skits on cybercrime and patriotic presentations.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Rajeev Ranjan, IPS (SP CID), extended a vote of thanks, urging the public to utilize the cyber helpline effectively.
The launch of these initiatives marks a significant leap forward in enhancing cyber security and law enforcement services in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, demonstrating a proactive approach towards safeguarding citizens.
