In a significant move to bolster cybersecurity across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Andaman and Nicobar Police have launched the “Cyber Surakshit Dweep Yojana,” a new initiative aimed at enhancing cyber awareness among the islanders on 14th August 2024. The program, spearheaded by Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivastva, Director General of Police (DGP) of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, is a proactive measure in response to the growing challenges in the digital landscape.
“With the rapidly changing cyber environment, it’s essential that we strengthen our security measures to protect our citizens from emerging threats,” stated DGP Srivastva during the launch event. “The ‘Cyber Surakshit Dweep Yojana’ is a crucial step towards ensuring that the residents of these islands are well-informed and equipped to safeguard themselves against cyber risks.”
The initiative’s core objective is to enhance cybersecurity across the islands by keeping the public up-to-date on the latest cyber threats. Andaman and Nicobar Police will disseminate advisories regularly, offering practical advice on how to stay safe online. These updates will be shared through a variety of channels, including digital platforms, print media, and social media, ensuring that the information reaches a broad audience.
The “Cyber Surakshit Dweep Yojana” is designed to target not just the general public but also government employees, private sector workers, and NGOs across all three districts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. By reaching out to these diverse groups, the initiative aims to create a more cyber-aware community that can collectively contribute to a safer digital environment.
This initiative marks a significant step forward in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands’ efforts to enhance cybersecurity. By keeping the community informed and empowered, the Andaman and Nicobar Police hope to foster a collaborative effort towards a secure digital future.
