Andaman and Nicobar Police has issued a warning to the public about a new cyber scam targeting unsuspecting individuals through fake delivery parcel notifications. Cybercriminals are using this method to obtain One-Time Passwords (OTPs) for fraudulent bank transactions and gain access to victims’ email addresses and smartphones.
The scam involves cybercriminals working closely with delivery agents or agencies. They identify individuals who frequently receive packages from various e-commerce platforms and then target them. The criminals send fake delivery notifications, often via SMS, tricking victims into clicking on malicious links or providing sensitive information.
To safeguard against these scams, the Andaman and Nicobar Police have issued the following advisory:
1. Confirm your order history and the potential delivery dates before accepting or cancelling any package.
2. Avoid clicking on any links received in an SMS related to package deliveries.
3. Scrutinize all URLs before opening them and providing any information or OTP.
4. Do not share personal details such as your address, email ID, phone number, etc., unless absolutely necessary.
5. Avoid clicking on links or calling back numbers from unexpected delivery notices received via SMS or email.
