In celebration of the 70th Wildlife Week, the Andaman Avians Club hosted a special bird-watching event at Chidiyatapu, near Hotel Symphony Samudra, drawing nature enthusiasts and conservation advocates alike. The event, held on Sunday morning, aimed to raise awareness about wildlife conservation and highlight the rich diversity of bird species in the Andaman Islands.

Approximately 25 participants, including volunteers and birding novices, joined the two-hour walk, which was open to both club members and the general public. Led by seasoned birdwatchers from the Andaman Avians Club, participants were split into smaller groups to ensure a more engaging and informative experience. During the walk, attendees had the opportunity to observe and identify nearly 30 different bird species.

Among the highlights were sightings of migratory birds such as the Brown Shrike, Asian Flycatcher, and Amur Stonechat, which had arrived for their seasonal stay in the islands. Club members enthusiastically shared their knowledge of local and migratory birds, offering tips on birdwatching techniques and identification skills.

Ms. Sara, from Pondicherry University, added to the event’s educational value by sharing her personal birding experiences. The walk was coordinated by Mr. D. Kishore Kumar, General Secretary (Admin).

Under the club’s motto of “Observe, Preserve, and Educate,” the Andaman Avians Club continues to lead initiatives to promote the conservation of the islands’ unique biodiversity. By encouraging locals and visitors to actively participate in such excursions, the club hopes to foster a deeper understanding of the need to protect wildlife habitats.

The bird-watching event not only allowed participants to connect with nature but also reinforced the message of preserving the delicate ecosystems that sustain the islands’ avian population. As migratory species continue to visit the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, events like these play a vital role in raising awareness about the importance of conserving natural habitats for future generations.
