Andaman Avians Club Leads Successful Beach Cleanup at Chidiyatapu Sunset Point to Mark World Earth Day 2024

In commemoration of World Earth Day 2024, the Andaman Avians Club took the helm in a highly impactful beach cleanup initiative at Chidiyatapu Sunset Point. The event garnered participation from club members, their families, volunteers from Reef Watch, and enthusiastic members of the local community. The focus of the initiative was to raise awareness about the pressing issue of plastic pollution under the theme “Planet vs Plastic.”

D. Kishore Kumar, Secretary of the Andaman Avians Club, expressed the significance of the event, stating, “The theme for World Earth Day, ‘Planet vs Plastic,’ resonated deeply with our club members and the community at large. By organizing events like this, we aim to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of plastic pollution and inspire positive action.”

On the picturesque shores of Chidiyatapu Sunset Point, renowned for its breathtaking views and diverse marine life, volunteers equipped with gloves and bags rallied together to clear plastic waste and debris threatening the fragile ecosystem. Throughout the evening, participants tirelessly combed the shoreline, emphasizing the importance of responsible waste management and the urgent need for collective action to address environmental challenges.

Sangamesh, a member of Reef Watch, expressed gratitude for the collaborative effort, stating, “Cleanup drives like this one demonstrate the power of community engagement in safeguarding our natural resources. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the fight against plastic pollution.”

Under the leadership of Dr. MG Madanan, President in Charge of AAC, and coordinated by Prasanth Sarathy, member of AAC, the event marked a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to promote environmental stewardship and sustainability within the community. The Andaman Avians Club reaffirmed its commitment to organizing similar initiatives in the future, aiming to foster a culture of responsibility for the preservation of the planet’s precious ecosystems.
