Sri Vijaya Puram, 23 December 2024

A delegation from the Andaman & Nicobar Anganwadi Workers & Helpers Union (CITU), led by Union President Ms. Geeta Devi, recently met with the Chief Secretary of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration to discuss various challenges faced by Anganwadi workers and helpers in the islands.

During the meeting, the Union representatives informed the Chief Secretary about the significant delays in the payment of honorariums to Anganwadi workers and helpers, which they said had been happening without any clear reasons. They also raised the issue of delayed payments for room rent of Anganwadi centres, which are not being processed on time by the Social Welfare Department.

The Union delegation further urged the Chief Secretary to extend the benefit of gratuity to retiring Anganwadi workers and helpers, citing a Supreme Court order. Additionally, they brought attention to the non-payment of fees for various surveys conducted by Anganwadi workers and helpers, which they said had not been reimbursed.

The Chief Secretary listened carefully to the delegation’s concerns and assured them that their demands would be considered favourably.

The delegation also included Ms. R. Anbukkarsi, General Secretary, and Ms. Fulcaria Dung Dung, Treasurer of the Union.
