The Andaman & Nicobar Archives has taken a significant step toward promoting academic research with the inauguration of a fully equipped Reference Room on 25th April 2025. The facility was formally inaugurated by the Secretary (Archives), Ms. Smitha R, IAS, during a simple ceremony.
The new Reference Room aims to provide enhanced resources for students, scholars, and the general public interested in historical and academic research. Speaking at the event, Ms. Smitha R encouraged undergraduate and postgraduate students, particularly those studying History in local colleges, to utilise the Archives’ extensive resources. She also urged students to enroll as research scholars under the provisions of the Public Records Rules, 1997, to delve deeper into the Islands’ rich historical heritage.
The Reference Room has been furnished with essential facilities designed to support academic endeavours and foster a deeper engagement with the historical records of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
